Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. The people who aren't familiar with this term generally believe that it's an separate island off the coast of Montreal However, in reality the West Island is home to all things from the Lachine city. Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay within the city was brief. Brugel lived in Courtice in the town of Oshawa. Initial plans were to be the best performer in the world, however, she literally outgrew the dance partners. In an article published in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6'1 inch. When I outgrew my male counterparts I stopped. The majority of dancers who have been ex-dancers now turn to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school that pushed her to take the next step. It was suggested that she take part in her school's production. The teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual play. It was her turn to be awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated on the 20th of January, 2000. She graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts. Through the years since, Brugel was offered roles in over 60 plays on both small and large screens receiving the most media attention, when she was cast as Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast on the show in the season 1 of the series. She was she was only seen on occasion.
