Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on this part of the island of Montreal called"the West Island. People who aren't familiar with this name believe the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually the West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. This is not true. Brugel was raised in Courtice in the town of Oshawa. Early ambitions were to be the best performer in the world, however, she simply outgrew her dancing partners. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. As I grew older than my male partners I stopped. Former dancers often turn to acting, which is what Brugel did. The drama instructor at her high school helped push to Brugel into the direction she wanted to go in. The teacher suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role in the school's annual production. This led to being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, for the more than 20 years that followed, Brugel was offered roles in over 60 shows on both screens, attracting the most attention after she was offered the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 and appeared only in a few episodes.
