Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community in The West Island of Montreal is an example of a "sleepy" spot. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine up to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time within the city was brief. Brugel began her life in Courtice, just outside of Oshawa. Early ambitions were to be a performer, but she was able to outgrow her dancers. In an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. As soon as I was able to outgrow male friends, I began to stop. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance of a drama teacher from her high school, which prompted her to take up acting. She was encouraged to audition for a part in the school's production. She auditioned to play the lead in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program in 2000. She graduated at the age of 20 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Through the years that followed, Brugel was offered roles in more than 60 productions across the small and big screens receiving the most media attention, when she landed the role of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the only Canadian participant for the season 1 of the series. She was she was only seen on occasion.
